Where It All Began...

We are located in Missouri where there are many lakes, streams, rivers & pools. One of Missouri’s most popular lake destinations is Lake of the Ozarks which features more than 1,100 miles of shoreline (more shoreline than the coast of California), with many marina’s, public and private docks and beaches. Tragically, on July 4, 2012, a 13 year old girl and her 8 year old brother, were killed by electricity (ESD) while swimming near a private dock at Lake of the Ozarks. Officials said the dock was not protected by a GFCI as required. The electrical fault may have come from a boat lift or water slide pump. Upon hearing about these sad and preventable deaths, our team wanted to take on the challenge of developing a product that could prevent this from happening again. Driven by entrepreneurial spirit, our team looks to solve problems through innovation. We spent several years, researching, engineering and testing a solution. In 2016 we released Shock Alert, a device that tests the water for the presence of electricity before entering, so you know if it is safe. We obtained several patents that came about while developing the product with several more patents pending.

Electric shock drowning (ESD) is a term used to describe a cause of death that occurs when swimmers are exposed to electric currents in the water. In some cases the shock itself is fatal, since the person will suffocate when their diaphragm is paralyzed, while in others it incapacitates the swimmer causing them to drown.

Our mission at Shock Alert is to increase awareness of Electric Shock Drowning and help pool and dock owners understand how to prevent this silent killer. It is important to use Shock Alert to check your pool before you jump!

Shock Alert’s goal is to spread the message that no one should swim near a dock or marina where electricity is used and that it is crucial to check water for any electricity present, in the case that a person or pet falls in.
